The scary Northampton clown who many believe is a Paignton student has been making new appearances.

The clown who has 190,000 Facebook followers worldwide has now appeared at Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.

And now a new, different clown has popped up, clutching balloons, in Mansfield.

Northampton University film making student Alex Powell, 22, from Elmbank Gardens, admitted to a national newspaper that he was the clown. But later he told the Herald Express that he was covering for the real clown, whose identity he knows, to 'keep up the mystery'.

But a post today says: "I'm glad to have inspired this new 'Mansfield clown' but it's not me. Different costume of course."

And the clown says he will be back in Northampton soon: "Northamptonians, keep those eyes open in the next few days."

The Northampton clown has been popping up since Friday September 13, dressed like horror writer Stephen King's character Pennywise, holding balloons and saying nothing except 'Beep Beep'.

Staten Islanders have been scared silly by images of a clown carrying balloons and stalking neighborhoods after dark that have started to appeared on social media.

The terrifying clown, who resembles the character Pennywise from Stephen King’s horror novel “It,” made headlines in the local paper and even caused local politicians like Congressman Michael Grimm and Borough President James Oddo to get involved.

“That’s a clown question, bro,” tweeted Oddo when asked by reporters about the clown. It was a reference to a famous quote by baseball player Bryce Harper.

But The Post has learned that the Staten Island residents who sparked the creepy viral phenomenon are all tied to the same boro-based horror movie production company.

However, when told of social media evidence tying the quartet together, New York City-based Fuzz on the Lens employee Michael Leavy said "It's a small island and we've been trying to get as many people associated with Fuzz on the Lens as possible."

Leavy elaborated on his comments Tuesday, adding he's been receiving messages from Innocente and Dibitetto asking if he or anyone with the company coordinated the clown craze to trick them.

"I have told them and everyone else the same I have told you guys. If you want to believe it is me or whoever you're more then welcome," said Leavy. "It's a small island and Fuzz on the Lens is a well known production company here so I'm sure its not hard to link us to a lot of islanders in one way or another."

Other residents have reported seeing the scary clowns armed with a machete or baseball bat, Grubbs said, but police haven't apprehended any clowns with weapons.

Sgt. Ian Chandler of the Kern County Sheriff's Department in Wasco says his department has also received several phone calls about scary clowns. He suspects the social media accounts are just "copycats" who heard about the sightings, which may have been sparked by a couple dressing up as clowns for an art project, he said.
